Janaury Month in Review

hey all!
this january has been crazy, absolutely non-stop madness. ever since i went back to school it was like a foot on the gas pedal just a car going at full speed. i went back to school on january 3rd, and my semester was over on january 20th so you all must know the craziness that is the end of the semester. so basically my whole month was this intense worry about school.
but lets get started on the month in review!
i went back to school (as i mentioned before) on january 3rd, and later that week, they were either shooting a movie or a tv show at my school.

 
the first photo is showing all of the shows’ lights at night the second photo is also at night and it looks to weird because of the amount of lights that were on while it was at night.
my sister left to go back to school on january 9th, so on the 8th we had a little sister outing.

we went to ramen tatsunoya in pasadena which is a place that i absolutely love!
then, the next day we had a family send off brunch at lincoln in pasadena,

i had a breakfast burrito, my sister had their famous parmesan eggs and we all had the pretzel rolls from lincoln which are absolutely fabulous with creame fraiche.
then at school, i started doing some product study for art,

i decided to paint a louis vuitton bag on a tiny baby canvas and it was put up in my art room!
then i went dormant for studying for awhile…
then it was january 20th, my sister’s birthday and we went down to visit her and we went to the rain room at lacma.

it was super cool but i didn’t exactly know you were not supposed to wear dark colors and i wore a black top from brandy melville. so the room literally rained on me that day and i got so wet, but it was super cool to be in a room inside where water actually fell on me.
then on january 25th, it was my dad’s birthday (and college night for juniors at my school). and i made my dad a birthday card which is la la land inspired.

basically, i realized that i am way too stressed out for college, i mean just sitting there was immensely stressful, but i am only so stressed out because college means so much to me and its such a big deal i just need to take it slow and luckily my school as such good college counselors and parents who will help to support me in my process.
that was pretty much the month for me.
so i decided for every month i am going to be saying my rose and thorn for the month.
rose : A grade in AP English
thorn: studying all month for all of my ap lang finals.
anyway, now with all of this lifted off my chest i am ready to start february!

What I've Been Reading : January 2017

hey all!
as well with getting healthier, one of my other goals has been to read more. i am in an advanced placement english language and composition class which means i have been reading a lot of short articles to find the argument and different rhetorical strategies, so today i decided to share some articles and books of what i have been reading!
lets go!

  1. “Black Mirror’s ‘Nosedive’ Skewers Social Media” – I highly suggest watching the series ‘Black Mirror’ season 3 episode one before reading this article. It is an awesome episode and extremely thought-provoking and is an inspiration for my article on why i hate social media.

  2. “If Sugar Is Harmless, Prove It” – This is an interesting article which takes a different stance, arguing that sugar is not really at fault for the obesity the world faces. I am not really a big science girl, I have never loved science despite my great understanding of it but as a girl who is really into different health things this article was a really good one to read.

  3. “A Soup Dumpling Crawl Through New York City” – If you love Xiao Long Bao as much as i do you will really appreciate this article. Although I am not a New York City local, I can appreciate a post about dumplings anytime.

  4. “This is What Couture Looks Like in the Age of Instagram” – This is a fashion post from Vogue which basically shares the photos and a little analysis of the different couture that we can see simply when we turn on our phones instead of just fashion magazines.

  5. “Are Baby Carrots as Healthful as Other Carrots?” – Okay, so y’all may ask me, why are you including this post, Kate? well simply I eat baby carrots every day during lunch, I eat my main entree with a side of baby carrots. It was really interesting to be able to see the science of something that I take for granted.

  6.  “Think You Have Asthma? You Might Not” – Although this article is a little short, its to the point, showing the facts and realities of a typical asthma diagnosis for an adult.
  7.  “A Grandmother’s Secret Turmeric Prescription” – TURMERIC! likely you have heard about it in the news or seen it on Pinterest but what is it? well, Turmeric is “a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae” according to wikipedia. Apparently its really healthy, but anyway, read this article and it will give you more specs.

Healthy Snacks to Eat

hey all!
you have known from my new years resolutions, but i have obviously been trying to become healthier as you may be been able to tell by seeing my workout routines, and my workout playlist. for me, my hungriest point in the day is typically from 3-4ish, i am never very hungry for breakfast and typically eat a bar. for lunch, i usually have oatmeal or leftovers from the past day and dinner is whatever we are making. my meals do not really tend to be that large ever since about a year ago i have been eating less. but the one time i am really hungry in the day is after school.
but the one time i am really hungry in the day is after school. and i guess its because school kinda takes it all out of me and i am tired, or maybe its because i just let loose after school. but today i wanted to share some snacks that are perfect to eat because they are filling and healthy.

What I Hate About Social Media: From a Blogger Perspective

hey all!
whats up? how is your life right now? its tuesday and i am crazy busy this week, i have been having exams on and off from last week, this week and next week. i have been crazy busy and was so glad that i had yesterday off of school and i hope that all y’all had a fabulous mlk jr day yesterday and a restful long weekend.
so today i want to share a not so popular opinion:
i hate social media
thats it, i said it. i know its a taboo for a teenager, and its also a taboo for a blogger. just because i am 16 i should just love everything about social media and just love it but honestly its just so much work.
social media is just so much work.
like so much work, and half of it is not even real. like most people show a happy experience, but its not as sunny as it seems to be in experiences.
like for example,

this photo, i posted for christmas was a set of macaron ornaments that i recieved for saint nicholas day.
seems easy right, you know, just open the box and put it in between the tree branches right?
but in this photo taking experience, there is also this one

yeah,

  • i took my tripod out, set it up to the correct height (1 minute)
  • brought my lamp out from my bedroom, plugged in and turned it on (5 minutes)
  • brought out a string of christmas lights and plugged them in (3 minutes)
  • set my ornament in the tree (1 minute)
  • taking my pictures, realizing they didn’t look good at that angle and then fixing the ornament and tripod angle (7 minutes)

oh yeah, then i decided oh i don’t like how that ornament looks in photos, so i eventually switched it to the other ornament that ended up in the image that was posted on instagram.
then it was another:

  • setting up the ornament in the branches (3 minutes)
  • changing the angle of the tripod (2 minutes)
  • and retaking the photos again (5 minutes)

but wait, there is more, you didn’t think i posted the image without editing it did you?

  • moved my photos from my camera to my phone (5 minutes)
  • edited them on the photos iphone app (3 minutes)
  • moved them to vsco and edited them (6 minutes)

so for a grand total of 41 minutes for 56 likes on an instagram photo.
now this seems really crazy, and i assure you this is crazy. like no one should be having to spend almost 3/4 of an hour ending up with only one photo that goes on the internet for not very many people even seeing it or let alone caring how long it takes you or what the image is even of.
now, this is sad because not only is it a time waste, but it also creates a sense that perfection is easy, just because we see it on our feeds. lmy photos should not have to be as good as a company who have hired many 8 people to make the same photo as i did in 40 minutes as a teenager, but you are expected to have good photos or no one will follow your instagram or care what you post.
its just sadness that the world has gone to this, that we just expect that it takes 41 minutes to make a photo, or 15 minutes to make a graphic which i use on every post, 3 days a week.  i also spend about 20 minutes each on my photo sets where i create outfits, and i honestly wonder if people even care, or just scroll past it to see articles about “free preppy stickers”.

January Workout Playlist

hey all
the other day i posted my workout routine, well what goes with workouts better than music! i made my music playlist that i love to listen to while working out. i run to this, do routines to this, golf or anything else using a workout playlist. i made a new one for the new year and basically absolutely love it.
so here it is!

you can listen to it, follow it etc. i love listening to it in order because it gives the perfect build up for me while running, but it would also be awesome in a shuffle order. they are mostly pump up songs with an awesome tempo that keeps you moving at a consistent pace.

An Update with Kate : Letting Go

hey all!
we are past winter break and i am back to school, and this week over the announcements i heard that my school’s basketball team has officially moved into their official season play.
not gonna lie, this made me a little bit sad. i miss my team, i miss being on a team. i mean golf is off season so currently i am not seeing the same group of people after school every day.
i mean there were a lot of reasons why i didn’t wanna play basketball this year. a major one being i am doing art after school on tuesdays and thursdays. i am doing an extensive art program for two hours after school (sometimes i admit, its a tad long) but we also watch movies, listen to music and talk while doing art. its super awesome because i am in this cluster of girls who are all creatives and we all influence each other, and help each other not only for ideas, but also in small ideas.
another reason is my knee, i mean basketball is more than just running. so my knee became really aggravated because of the fast stops, and dribbling and just like running back and forth. other people affect basketball, i mean the moves of others and just even making free-throw shots hurt because of my knees. so honestly i am saving my knee from more aggravation.
no longer playing basketball definitely has been hard because i feel like something is missing in my life. i mean, i totally thrive when i am totally over booked and over busy. like when i have nothing to do after school i totally flounder and have nothing to do, i put on the netflix because i have so much time. i am not busy enough, like i love having too much to do, which is why i have my workout rotuines which i do every monday, wednesday and friday!

#1: run & roll out
i usually run or walk for about 1.5-2 miles depending on my daily energy. i go to run on a treadmill or run in my neighborhood. if i run in my neighborhood i usually run about 1.5 miles because its partly uphill but if i’m on the treadmill  i typically do the full 2 miles because i don’t have anything uphill. after that i either return home with my foam roller or i use the foam roller after the treadmill. at home this is my foam roller i use. i typically roll out my legs and my knee because i have previously injured my right knee.
#2: golf driving range
i actually haven’t been golfing in months, but i am planning on going back to the driving range soon. i am planning on going every saturday early in the morning for 30 minutes. there, my routine is typically i stretch out my arms, then get a medium bucket of 45 balls. i typically go from my pitching wedge, to a 5 iron, through most of my irons then to my driver. then after that i finish with the putting green.
thats pretty much it!
