More Summer Books to Read

($ this post contains affiliate links which may be monetized $)

hello again my friends!

happy tuesday! about a month ago i did a post of some summer books to read – i explained that i LOVED (and still do love) reading in summer and how i planned to get a lot of it done. and boy oh boy i have. since finishing that post, i’ve read SIX – yes 6 books! in less than a MONTH! i’m incredibly proud of myself and also incredibly excited because it makes me feel so proactive and so productive. because not only am i reading these books, but i am also watching a bunch of classic movies with my sister (when both she and i aren’t at work), working (in RETAIL), visiting with friends, working out (MORE THAN ONCE A DAY) and blogging with increased vigor and strength. i honestly feel like superwoman that i was able to complete all of these and i think these books are actually giving something back to me, my serious love of reading.

since i was so darn excited about finishing ~almost~ all of the books i put on my last reading list i’ve decided to make another reading list because i have yet more books that i want to read as it is!

as always, a note to all my readers – this post does not mean i own any of the above, or that i will buy any of the above (most of these books i just check out on the library or use the overdrive site). also i did NOT write these summaries, i have pulled them from overdrive (i credit down below) and then say why i am excited to read them.

so here we go!

{8CE462D7-98D0-4977-9503-8D1652EFAC51}Img100 unbecoming (3 perspectives!)

“Three women—three secrets—one heart-stopping story. Katie, seventeen, in love with someone whose identity she can’t reveal. Her mother Caroline, uptight, worn out and about to find the past catching up with her. Katie’s grandmother, Mary, back with the family after years of mysterious absence and “capable of anything,” despite suffering from Alzheimers. As Katie cares for an elderly woman who brings daily chaos to her life, she finds herself drawn to her. Funny, sad, honest and wise, Unbecoming is a celebration of life, and learning to honour your own stories.” – overdrive

originally drawn to this beautiful cover, after reading the summary i am intrigued on how they will pull together all three generations, but i think it could be an interesting story!

the female of the species (okay, woah!){15799D61-E1F2-48FC-BF4D-455B5AE708B9}Img100

“Alex Craft knows how to kill someone. And she doesn’t feel bad about it. Three years ago, when her older sister, Anna, was murdered and the killer walked free, Alex uncaged the language she knows best—the language of violence. As their senior year unfolds, Alex’s darker nature breaks out, setting these three teens on a collision course that will change their lives forever.” – overdrive

the first sentence of this summary absolutely shook me. i mean, so blunt. so much that it stopped me in my tracks for a good moment, and i am actually really looking forward for a book to stop me in my tracks.

little wrecks ( haunting AND explosive)

“Meredith Miller explores the truth behind three girls on the cusp of adulthood, and all the shocking realizations that come under the guise of growing up. Ruth, Magda, and Isabel are different from everyone else. They can see beneath the seemingly perfect, cookie-cutter exterior of their small town of Highbone, Long Island. They know that below the surface, each house is filled with secrets, indifference, and violence. But for the first time, Ruth, Magda, and Isabel are keeping secrets from each other. As they drift apart, the weight of reality starts to set in. These girls can’t save each other. They might not even be able to save themselves.” – overdrive

i’ve just been looking forward to something to keep me on my toes at all times, i feel like i get it in TV, but do enough of that in reading!

theft by finding (diaries of a comedian!) {357AD924-321C-4BBF-91BB-47060019CD10}Img100

“For nearly four decades, David Sedaris has faithfully kept a diary in which he records his thoughts and observations on the odd and funny events he witnesses. Anyone who has attended a live Sedaris event knows that his diary readings are often among the most joyful parts of the evening. But never before have they been available in audio. Now, in Theft by Finding, Sedaris brings us his favorite entries. From deeply poignant to laugh-out-loud funny, these selections reveal with new intimacy a man longtime listeners only think they know. Tender, hilarious, illuminating, and endlessly captivating, Theft by Finding offers a rare look into the mind of one of our generation’s greatest comic geniuses.” – overdrive

my friends LOVE david sedaris, and in AP lang we read some of his satire, and i need some comedy in my life with all of these super dramatic books i am gonna read! i know this will be light hearted and honestly perfect after work.

{F7D9FD99-FDF4-427D-B3F5-F2B1B214B879}Img100sisters first (written by former first daughters)

“Born into a political dynasty, Jenna and Barbara Bush grew up in the public eye. As small children, they watched their grandfather become president; just twelve years later they stood by their father’s side when he took the same oath. They spent their college years being trailed by the Secret Service and chased by the paparazzi, with every teenage mistake making national headlines. But the tabloids didn’t tell the whole story of these two young women forging their own identities under extraordinary circumstances. In this book, they take listeners on a revealing, thoughtful, and deeply personal tour behind the scenes of their lives, with never-before-told stories about their family, their adventures, their loves and losses, and the special sisterly bond that fulfills them.” – overdrive

no matter where you lie on the political spectrum, if you have a sister you know how it feels to have a sister, and since i’m so interested in politics – this is a really interesting story, i feel as though we never really hear from the children of the president and this would be a very cool opportunity to see into a world i can’t ever imagine.

“A gleeful and exhilarating tale of global conspiracy, complex code-breaking, high-tech data visualization, young love, rollicking adventure, and the secret to eternal life—mostly set in a hole-in-the-wall San Francisco bookstore” – overdrive

i love the cover, but then i read the summary – it seems so interesting! its a bit of a mystery and i’ve heard that its so satisfying but i’m so excited to read!

{BF51437D-BE51-4C7A-977B-E3DAEE0ED3A5}Img100.jpgthe subtle art of not giving a f*ck ( i LOVE the title)

“In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be “positive” all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people. There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.” – overdrive

i love the title of this book – and i saw that aimee song from song of style listed this as one of her books to read this summer and i kinda LOVE listening to self help books – or podcasts etc but totally seems like a great beach read.
